Family by definition is a group of one or more parents and their children living together as a unit.  While that is a traditional family unit, not all “families” look like this.  Today, families come in all shapes and sizes.  There is more to family than blood and a name. What makes a family is love, honor, respect, loyalty, forgiveness, togetherness, strength, joy, and covenant just to name a few.  It’s showing up and standing beside each other in the calm of the day or in the loneliness of the night.  Family is someone you can call at 4:00 a.m. too sad to even say hello and the person on the other end listens to your silence until you fall asleep.  Families are made up of people who want you in their lives as much as you want them in yours.  In truth, family is what you make it.  Your family can become this beautiful mosaic of personalities that can grate against each other at one moment and defend you the next, after all, no one can be mean to my people.  So as you travel through this messy and beautiful thing we call life, pay attention to who you come in contact with because you may miss your next “family member” on accident.  They could be anyone; they could be the hero wearing a cape who comes to your rescue, or they could be in need of a hero and you just happen to be wearing yours.  Never underestimate the wonderful blessing of who is placed in your life; they will help form you into who you will be and vice versa.
